Position: Chief of Business and Development

Location of work: Addis Ababa Burn Emergency Medicine and trauma (AaBET) Hospital an affiliate of St Paul’s Hospital, Millennium medical college.

Background

            St Paul’s hospital Millennium medical college is one of the leading teaching health facilities in Ethiopia. The Hospital was established in 1962 by the German catholic Missionary with good will of the then emperor of Ethiopia, Haileselssie the first, St Paul’s college is expanding at a dramatic pace in recent years with the opening of new services and training programs. The opening of the biddest emergency care, training and research facility –AaBET is one of the successful additions to the college.

AaBET is established with the mission of providing patient centered quality care, running innovative training programs and performing research in the areas of burn, emergency medicine, and trauma. Client  centeredness, quality of service, timeliness, competency and grass root ownership are highly valued at AaBET.

Candidate profile

Addis Ababa Burn Emergecny Medicine and Trauma Hospital – AaBET is meant to have the hard and soft structure that enables it to provide modern emergency care and innovative training programs that go along it. It has put for itself the vision of becoming a center of excellence in care, training and research in the field. In the journey o achieve its missions and vision strategic development of its capacity and agile business plans that effectively work within the rules and regulations of the country  are quintessential. Hence, we are looking for a highly motivated chief of business and development with a transformational and farsighted vision, who has the strategic directions and policies of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at fingertips who has the experience and the preparation to design, research, monitor and evaluate complex institutional strategic programs.

Experience:

  • At least 10 years work experience with at least 4 years working in the area of business and development at a complex government institution

Duties and responsibilities

The Chief of business and development is member of the management council of the hospital. His/her major duties and responsibilities include:    

  • Designs, monitors and evaluates development projects that enable the hospital achieve its vision
  • Researches innovative ways of development and executing business in the institution
  • Organizes, trains and runs the business and development team of the hospital in a way that fosters timeliness, quality of service, client centeredness and competency to enable to the health professionals spend their time in patient care and training
  • Leads the business and development team to create grass root ownership and excellent team spirit
  • Supports the management council in financial planning proposing budget for strategic initiatives and projects of AaBET
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting  of the business and development activities
  • Works to create a finance and administration team that is effective and efficient operates with compliance with relevant financial and administrative regulations and standards of the federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
  • Continually reviews work practices and procedures for better operational efficiency; and potential issues in strategic programs. Proactively councils the CEO on solutions and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides advice on business and development to ensure consistent application of St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical college policies, procedures, in AaBET projects and initiatives.
  • Ensures precise documentation, produces and reviews financial reports to ensure fiscal strictness
  • Serves as a link to the development and administrative vice provost office of the college
  • Designs innovative development and human resource strategies to realize a motivated, compassionate and caring health development army and utilize the work force to a maximum.
  • Executes other activities delegated to him by the CEO.

Educational Requirements

  • MSC in business administration or related field with a specific training in the strategies and policies of the country
  • Advanced communication skills training
  • Verifiable previous academic interest in health development

Other skills and competences 

  • Excellent IT skills
  • High ethical standards
  • Excellent multitask management capacity and ability to work under stressful conditions
  • Expert Knowledge of the financial, human resource and other administrative regulations in Ethiopia
