The Global Alliance for improved Nutrition (GAIN)
is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. GAIN fights malnutrition in Ethiopia through innovative and sustainable models that increase access to affordable nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to malnutrition. GAIN’s Mother, Infant, Young child nutrition (MIYCN) initiative in Ethiopia has invested in two projects to address the high levels of stunting among infant and young children:

1)  Facilitate the introduction of nutritious complementary foods (CF) at national scale, GAIN will lead an exploratory research in the development of delivery channels and CF product promotion working with viable and sustainable businesses and facilitate the expansion of the community based local production of complementary foods in decentralized and small-scale facilities.

2) Facilitate the introduction of Micronutrient powders (MNPs) through filling the knowledge gap around operational aspects of scaling –up MNP Promotion and distribution in Ethiopia as part of a process to establish a national home fortification program.

GAIN is looking for a Senior Project Manager to coordinate and manage the entire MIYCN projects portfolio in Ethiopia and to provide strategic support to the  Ethiopia country manager in implementing GAIN’s projects.

The Senior project Manager will work closely with the Ethiopian Government, partners and other civil society organizations to achieve impact through scalable models of complementary food production. This includes preparation of robust plans including action plans, developing and revising budgets, develop contracts and following up with implementing partners. Moreover, he/she will be working with a technical working group under the NNP umbrella and the government to facilitate a supportive and policy environment. He/she will also be responsible for the coordination of GAIN’s work development partners.

Key responsibilities

Project Management

  • Accountable for the overall management of Ethiopia MIYCN portfolio with primary project management, reporting technical and financial documentation responsibilities for all GAIN, donor and Government of Ethiopia requirements.
  • Streamline the joint UNICEF-GAIN complementary foods and integrated home fortification projects
  • Collaborates with the country manager, and Global programmes on program strategy, communications and implementation of all project components including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants.

Policy and Advocacy

  •  Collaborates with the policy & Advocacy (P&A) team and the country Manager to develop key government partnerships and facilitate key stakeholder alignment.
  • Engage key government sectors including the regulatory body to develop, revise and harmonize appropriate policies, directives, standards and guidelines on muliti-nutrient supplements and products.

Delivery Channels, Demand Creation and Behavior Change 

  • With support from GAIN HQ Communications and MIYCN teams, facilitates the development of communication materials, social marketing activities and communication campaigns in collaboration with partners to drive demand and product compliance
  • Collaborates with partners to educate and influence key opinion leaders, medical professionals and Associations on the importance of optimal feeding and complementary food products.

Job Requirements


  • A Master’s Degree in Health, nutrition, food science, Business Administration or a suitable equivalent is required
  • Diploma or equivalent certification in project management highly desirable.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proven leadership and management capabilities
  • Excellent project management capabilities
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills
  • Computer literacy with good excel, MS work, outlook, and power point skills


  • Minimum of twelve years of experience in a leadership /management position, including five years in a senior management position within international development.
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing multi –disciplinary teams in challenging program environments

Other requirements

  • Fluent written and verbal English and a good command of Amharic
  • A willingness and ability to travel extensively
