The Development Fund of Norway (DF)
is a Norewegian –based NGO working to promote a more fair distribution of the world’s resources by supporting sustainable development and local participation aimed at reducing poverty and at safeguarding the environment. In Ethiopia, the DF has supported rural development and natural resource management projects with local partners for nearly 35 years. The DF has a vacant position of program coordinator and wants to hire an experienced and qualified person  for the post.

The Development Fund of Norway (DF) with funding from operation Day’s work (ODW) in Norway will be implementing a 5-year programme in Ethiopia called My Life My Choice through the implementing partners; Woman support Association (WSA) and movement for Ecological Learning and Community Action (MELCA). The goal of the program is to increase the socio-economic empowerment of the rural youth in Malawi and Ethiopia. The program has four thematic areas as follows: Education, youth participation, income Generation and Environment and Agriculture.

The program is seeking a program coordinator for the period may 2016 – December 2019.
     

General Purpose of the position

The Program coordinator (PC) will be responsible for the coordination of the My life my choice program in Ethiopia. She or he will provide strategic direction and overall leadership to the program. The major direct areas of work are; program development and management, program monitoring and evaluation, networking in Ethiopia and beyond, reporting to donors, collaboration with other stakeholders,  coordinating and participation of youth in the program interventions.

Responsibilities

The PC will be required to do the following:

  • Together with the implementing partners, assess the program requirements of youth in the target communities
  • Communicate and coordinate with  the implementing partners and youth representatives to follow up on progress in the program
  • Facilitate the development of yearly plans and budgets, quarterly and annual reports, case studies and lessons learned in close collaboration with the implementing partners, youth representatives and other stakeholders
  • Suggest adjustment to the program and budget based on the needs from the youth and changes in the local political environment
  • Assess opportunities  for youth capacity building and project requirements
  • Ensure that program information is available on different platforms including social media i.e website, facebook, radio
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of program and activities
  • Facilitate linkages and networking between Malawi and Ethiopia where a similar ODW program is also being implemented.

Qualifications & works

The applicant should have a minimum of

  • BSc/BA degree in any development related fields such as development studies, social sciences, social work or other related fields
  • 2 years working with youth in rural areas (community and schools)
  • 2 years f experience with donor-funded project implementation /management
  • Those that have been part of youth groups, clubs and organizations and meet the above qualifications will have an added advantage.

Skills/personal attributes

  • The candidates must have a passion for youth work and development
  • Very good computer skills
  • Very good English skills, both in writing and oral
  • Innovative and able to work independently
