With the support of the WTO secretariat, the ministry of trade has up a national project implementation unit (NPIU) to implement the country’s trade development agenda. The functions of the NPIU will comprise updating of the diagnostic trade integration study (DTIS), mainstreaming trade into GPT priorities and other national development plans, translating priorities in the Action matrix into bankable projects and coordinating the delivery demand-driven trade-related capacity building and training activities to stakeholders, building awareness of the WTO accession and bilateral and regional trade relation and negotiation processes and its benefits and promoting public-private sector dialogue on trade agenda.

The ministry would like to recruit qualified personnel for the following three positions on contract basis to work in the NPIU.

  1. Project coordinator

          Major duties and responsibilities

  • Spearhead the ministry effort to mainstream trade in all national development plans
  • Organize awareness creation workshops on trade related issues.
  • Work with the ministry on the DTIS update process.
  • Reflect DTIS priorities across government sector and national planning strategies.
  • Develop a national expert promotion strategy in consultation with public and private stakeholders
  • Translate the prioritized actions of the updated DTIS action matrix into project proposal for funding.
  • Build capacity and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to track implementation of the action matrix
  • Organize the conduct of training to build capacity of the ministry staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Perform any other duty assigned to him by the ministry.

Qualification and experience

  • Advanced degree in economics, international trade business Administration and other related fields or a BA degree with uniquely qualifying experience.
  • Have a minimum of 10/12 years of professional experience
  • Proven experience and knowledge of Ethiopia’s manufacturing sectors.
  • Thorough understanding of Ethiopia’s trade regime.
  • Experience in international national trade in particular export strategies for effective expansion of export trade at global level.
  • Knowledge of trade mainstreaming agendas, global trade polices and WTO issues.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • A combination of both very strong strategic capabilities and strong operational track record.
  • The ability to operate in a challenging and complex environment, combing in-depth trade expertise challenges.
  • Fluency in English

Terms of employment

  • The staff will be recruited for a period of three years beginning June 2016 with possibility of extension

Place of work:-Addis ababa with a possibility for a frequent travel
