Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association

The Ethio-Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA), in partnership with the University of Huddersfied of the UK and Sustainable Livelihood Action of the Netherlands, which together form the Southwest Forests and Landscape Grouping (SWLG), is in preparation to implement an internationally funded research and development project in Southern Nations, Nationalities and peoples’ Regional state. The focus is in the field of participatory forest management as applied to in situ conservation of wild coffee. The project intervention area is Guraferda, North Bench, Sheko and Yeki Woredas in Bench –maji Zone. (Menit Shasha may also be included but this is subject to review.) The following post is vacant and EWNRA is looking for experienced professionals to fill the post. Thus this is to invite interested potential candidates apply.

INCOME GENERATION & MARKETING FACILITATOR

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Under supervision of and accountable to the Team Leader, the income Generation & Marketing Facilitator is responsible for supporting income generation in the project areas. S/he will also be expected to liaise closely with the relevant government and non-government organizations in the project areas.

 

In addition has to handle the following specific duties and responsibilities:

 

  1. Build and maintain strong relations with WCC cooperatives, their members, their leadership and the communities with which they work.
  2. Build and maintain strong relations with the Bench Maji unions
  3. Develop and implement a strategy to strengthen existing WCC and NTFP cooperatives
  4. Identify organizations able to support income generation via the cooperatives
  5. Periodically review harvesting, transport, processing and purchase of coffee and other NTFPs
  6. Assess and address strengths and weaknesses in each cooperative and in their suppliers
  7. Review and propose improvements to benefit sharing mechanisms
  8. Ensue close and constructive working relations between forest Management Associations, cooperatives and all stakeholders
  9. Support the annual auditing the review of cooperatives and forest management associations
  10. Support the periodic review and conduct of annual general meetings, elections and other processes aimed at ensuring the good governance of cooperatives, forest management associations and other organizations
  11. Organise regular meetings with the GO-staff and other stakeholders involved in the project
  12. Prepare monthly work and annual work-plans and reports, and quarterly progress reports, as well as technical reports related to the area of PFM implementation
  13. Perform other project related tasks that may be required by the Team Leader.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, organizational Development or related subject. In lieu of academic qualifications, suitable professional experience of sufficient length would qualify.
  • Practical experience of using a participatory approach in Ethiopia
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Bench Maji zone and to fulfill PFM facilitation roles is essential
  • Desirable: Some awareness of the international experience and debates about cooperatives and community involvement in them

 

Duty station: Within Bench Maji zone, specific location to be confirmed. The post will require travel, including by motorcycle to the project intervention woredas and kebeles.

Supplementary Requirements for all positions:

  • Competency in computer applications of MS offices packages is required
  • Cooperative, team player, gender sensitive and excellent in interpersonal relationships
  • Have a strong commitment and openness to learn and share

Salary: As per the project scale

Terms of employment: Annually renewable contract based on successful performance initially for one year and for minimum of three years.
