The positions:
  The International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (icipe)) seeks to hire a Field Assistant-Maize & Chickpea IPM who will be based in East Shoa or Hawassa, Ethiopia.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up field trials pertaining to chickpea and maize IPM (Integrated Pest Management);
  • Assist in chickpea and maize insect pest, diseases and weeds scout;
  • Assist in data collection of maize and chickpea insect pest, diseases and weeds;
  • Assist in IPM information dissemination;
  • Assist in establishing maize and chickpea IPM;
  • Assist in training farmers and extension agents on maize and chickpea IPM;
  • Assist in liaising with the district Ministry of Agriculture and agricultural research centers to facilitate the program;
  • Carry out a range of technical tasks as well as specialized duties as given by the program leader.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Secondary school completed or College Diploma in Plant Sciences or Crop Production

Experience:

  • Five years for secondary school completed
  • Two years for college diploma holders

Skills:

  • Ability to ride a motorbike with valid driver’s license is necessary
  • Good working knowledge of written and spoken English essential
  • Willingness to work after office hours and/or holidays if required
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good inter-personal relationship
  • Good working knowledge of Oromiffa and Amharic or other local languages are necessary

Duty Station:   East Shoa or Hawassa

Position level:   1C.

Minimum Base salary:

  • Birr 7,312 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
