The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) is an autonomous, non-profit, non-partisan and non-discriminatory indigenous non-government organization. Since  its establishment FGAE has been working to promote Sexual Reproductive Health and family Planning rights and services. Currently it has eight area offices that operate all over the country. Job Summary

The purpose of the position is to provide leadership and coordinate organizational communication and external relations strategy and its implementation, building an maintaining positive image, publicizing and marketing the services of FGAE especially among Stakeholders in the external environment.

Responsibilities and Tasks:-

  • Providing leadership in coordinating media involvement in the activities of FGAE including press releases and coverage and airing of FGAE events in print and electronic media; especially those activities that require media coverage.
  • Coordinating as the Editor the production and publication of FGAE quarterly newsletter and annual report and coordinating their distribution using all avenues available.
  • Soliciting, obtaining collating stories, features and news including photographs from different units and departments and Area offices for inclusion in the newsletter.
  • Soliciting for adverts from corporate organizations, including but not limited to pharmaceutical companies, suppliers of medical equipment, banks and insurance companies, pension Administrators, telecommunication companies for placement in FGAE newsletters as advertisements at approved cost:
  • Working under the supervision of the executive Director in designing and leading the implementation of all activities geared towards building and maintaining positive corporate image of FGAE
  • Compiling, updating and maintaining media contacts list and mobilizing them from time to time to facilitate their participation in FGAE activities
  • Participating and collaborating with relevant units/departments and individuals staff in all program activities of the organization especially those relating to message and material development
  • Working with the ICT officer in the management of FGAE web site including quarterly updating and re-designing as may be necessary to improve its appearance and quality content and keep track and document visitors to the site as well as undertake qualitative analyses of the website and its use and explore other online communications strategies;
  • Reviewing and producing FGAE publicity and marketing materials including but not limited to organizational information brochure, banners, calendars, diary, souvenirs, almanac, Training institute and technical services brochure etc for wider dissemination to market organizational capability and services
  • Compiling, maintaining and updating calendar of events especially in the external environment to facilitate FGAE participation and where appropriate represent FGAE
  • Working with relevant FGAE team and or individual staff to produce articles, features and news for publication in the print media and organization’s documentary
  • Contribute to the design, organizing and conducting periodic update on communication and interpersonal skills training for relevant FGAE staff and clients as well as contribute to producing training curriculum /manual and learners’ materials in communication;
  • Collaborating with the relevant Department/unit in organizing and conducting all activities to commemorate special events including but not limited to national and international days such as World AIDS Day, Safe Motherhood Day, international Day of African child, World health and population days;
  • Organising and coordinating occasional courtesy and advocacy visits to media houses by the Executive Director and members of the National Executive Board;
  • Editing and improving quality content of programmatic reports, progress reports, curriculum, resource materials, publications etc
  • Establishing and managing online publications, social networking, an new communications initiatives for FGAE;
  • Developing, updating and coordinating the implementation of FGAE organizational communication and external relations strategy
  • Undertaking the search, cutting, pasting and maintaining newspaper stories on FGAE activities and events, cutting, producing and dissemination of these publications at approved intervals;
  • Contributing to building a network of journalists and media organizations and maintain close personal contacts with them to mobilize and engage them for FGAE events
  • Liaising with designers and printers on printed matters, supervising the production and ensuring timely delivery of printed and or published materials;
  • Monitoring, Soliciting and obtaining feedback from the external environment and providing such to the executive Director for decision making;
  • Create and manage FGAE twitter and face book and other accounts to disseminate organizational information
  • Create and maintain updated records of FGAE participation in activities of partners in the external environment
  • Perform other functions as assigned

Education: MPH/MA/BSc in public Relations, communication, Foreign Language Arts, Journalism & Relative studies

Work experience: 5 yrs for MPH/MSc/MA, 7yrs for BSc/BA after graduation, shall posses experience in communication and external relation preferably in NGO setting

Place of work: Addis Ababa – Head office

Salary: As per the FGAE’s salary scale

Terms of employment : one year contract, renewable based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds
