Job Title                                 Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counsellor

JOB Purpose:

To implement and promote core and optimal IYCF activities in a refugee camp where concern worldwide is implementing an emergency nutrition response programme, as per protocols and international standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Ensure community mobilization, sensitization and participation of targeted communities of IYCF matters in nutrition centres of the camp
  • Facilitate appropriate and participatory IYCF education sessions for targeted communities in general and for beneficiaries, caretakers in particular using proper IYCF-EIC tools
  • Identify and organize IYCF counseling for pregnant and Lactating women (PLW) with breastfeeding difficulties using appropriate techniques
  • Facilitate the re-lactation processes for identified orphans in the refugee’s camp
  • Participate to the creation of IYCF-Mothers to mothers support group in the refugee’s camp
  • Organise follow up and home visit sessions of IYCF-MMSG participation in the refugee’s camp
  • Help the IYCF –coordinator on conducting training for community outreach agents, in IYCF matters
  • Facilitate focus group discussions with PLWs IYCF baby friendly spaces in the nutrition centers 
  • Monitor and make sure that all discharged cases from the nutrition programme followed  a basic IYCF education sessions
  • Together with the IYCF coordinator and monitoring officer, collect and analyse programme data for improved programming and organize specific IYCF assessment in the refugee’s camp as per programme needs and timeframe
  • Promote and ensure compliance with the requirements of concern’s programme participants protection Policy (P4) and Humnitarian accountability partnership standards to ensure maximum protection to programme beneficiaries
  • Support CMAM caretakers living with HIV and AIDS on the best breastfeeding practices
  • Collect weekly and monthly IYCF sector data and report on deadline to the IYCF coordinator
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the IYCF coordinator and /or by emergency Nutritionist and area manager as per programme needs

Required Education and Experience

Essential

  • BSc Degree or Diploma in public health, Nursing, Nutrition or related field with minimum 5 years of 7 years relevant experience respectively
  • At least one year experience working in nutrition and /or public health
  • Minimum of two years NGO experience
  • Experience in community based health/nutrition programmes activities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of Nuer language is an advantage and will b an asset to communicate with people at different levels in the targeted community
  • IYCF experience is preferable
  • Computer Literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point and other statistical packages
  • Experience in CMAM or other nutrition programs

Desired:

  • Experience in community mobilization activities and IYCF promotion
  • Experience working in the refugee’s camp context and emergency situation
  • Experience in nutrition surveys, including data analysis
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in facilitating training and working in NGO is an advantages
