Orbis International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide. Orbis prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations in an effort to eliminate avoidable blindness. Orbis international –Ethiopia is a legally registered country office of this organization, carrying out the same mission in Ethiopia.

Following the completion of the department For international Development (DFED) –founded Global Trachoma Mapping Project (GTMP) in all trachoma-endemic districts in Ethiopia. DFID awarded Sight savers UK a grant to support the implementation of the WHO-endorsed SAFE (surgery, Antibiotic treatment, Facial Cleanliness and Environmental improvement) strategy to contribute towards making significant progress towards this goal in four countries, one of Which is Ethiopia. Sight savers UK selected Orbis as its coordinating partner for the National SAFE implementation in four Regions in Ethiopia With the leadership from the Ethiopian Fderal Ministry of Health.

Towards the effort and progress to eliminate blinding trachoma globally by the year 2020, the DFID through sight savers international, is supporting a national trachoma control program involving the four zones in four regions, namely East Harare zone in Oromia region, North Wollo in Amhara region, Southern Tigray zone in Tigray region and Hadiya zone and Yem special Woreda in SNNPRS.

The WHO recommended SAFE strategy is the mainstay for the trachoma control program. Since 2015, the surgery and Antibiotic components are being implemented successfully in the aforementioned zones & special Woredas. To bring long lasting and sustainable solution to eliminating blinding trachoma, all the four components should be integrated and implemented all together as they are the backbone elements. However, while the S and A components are progressing well, the successful implementation of the F and E components require organization (s) that have the expertise, experiences and other relevant resources. To this effect and based on recent experiences, involving the WASH communities is becoming very central.

This is, therefore, to invite for a bid interested wash organizations that can present renewed operational/registration license and also fulfill the required criteria as stated in the Terms of Reference (ToR) and also have demonstrated capacity and experience in development, production and implementation of health behavior change campaigns and materials with emphasis on hygiene and sanitation. The bid awarded organization will work in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, Neglected Tropical Disease Control Programme and other relevant ministry and non-governmental stakeholders.
